Jesus made it clear when he told his disciple, " If you love me, keep my commandments." They wanted to know the Father. They wanted to be with Jesus forever, but all they new was the old covenant law. Jesus met them where they were. He assured them that if they continue to keep his commands, he would send the Comforter to teach them all things. He reminded them that the way to show their love for Him, and the Father, was to keep His commands. Later, when he commissions them to go and preach the good news, He instructed them to teach those who believe "to obey all that He has commanded".
For us, it is a reminder that it is not enough to just know what God has commanded. We do not show our love for Him by how many verses we can quote. Adam and Eve gained the knowledge of both good and evil, yet it produced the opposite of love for God. We must obey what He has commanded. We show our love for God by keeping His commandments. You might not know all the verses or all the commands, but start with keeping what you do know and trust that the Holy Spirit will teach you everything you will need to know.
We could all use a reminder every now and them, not only of what God has commanded, but also to obey those commands.
