LOGOS TRADING POST - CONFESSION BOOKMARKS

Positivity, Negativity, and the Power of Life and Death

There is undeniable power in the speaking of God’s Word to bring positivity, encouragement, and strength to believers. Proverbs 18:21 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.” It’s quite dramatic, but in no way untrue; the words we choose to say are responsible for bringing us either death or - preferably - life. If we want to thrive, it is deeply important to continually speak words of positivity. Of course, a very reliable place to find good things to confess over yourself is the Bible, God’s Word!

God’s Words and Where to Find Them

There are many passages of scripture that have been used to encourage the Church and God’s people throughout history, and many are blessed today to have such easy access to them. In fact, you do as well! If you were able to reach our website through the internet, then you have access to a seemingly endless multitude of Bible websites and translations available for free. Remember that you are blessed, and perhaps take the time to say a prayer for those who do not have easy access to God’s Word.

It is always good to keep God’s words of encouragement available to you, whether through a digital Bible, a physical Bible, or another way. Reading the Bible is always a great way to find scriptures to confess over your life, but there’s also plenty of other places to find encouraging verses. This is one way that we hope our Christian bookmarks can help support your faith. In addition to this page which has to do with scriptures you can confess over yourself, we have other collections of Bible verse bookmarks that are great for being encouraged as well, such as our collection on God’s Character and Love or our collection on Assurance. Whether our using our bookmarks or otherwise, they goal is that you have scriptures you see consistently enough such that you can remember them and confess them over yourself. For one thing, it will help you feel encouraged, but for another, we believe there is legitimate, spiritual power in having God’s word on your mind and speaking it aloud.

What Creates Power in Confessing the Word?

For starters, multiple scriptures refer to the Word of God as “living,” more than just mere text on the page. 1 Peter 1:23 calls it “the living and abiding Word of God,” and Hebrews 4:12 famously says “the Word of God is living and active.” The Bible is more than the wisdom of men. Wise sayings and intelligent quips have their purpose, but the Bible is the very words of God. After all, 2 Peter 1:21 says, “For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” The Bible may be written by human hands, but God’s Spirit gave them the power to so, and the words that appear on the page are His.

Many places in the Bible confirm for us that the words of God contain a kind of power apart from the simple words that we speak on our own. Take a familiar story as an example: the creation in Genesis 1. Genesis 1:3 says, “Then God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.” He created all of the heavens and the earth not by His hands, but with His voice. On each day of creation, He speaks, and the universe must order itself accordingly. Further, this divine power in spoken words is evident in Jesus Christ. When the Roman soldiers and temple police confronted Jesus in John 18, they proclaimed they were seeking “Jesus the Nazarene.” He responds boldly, and verse 6 says, “When He told them, ‘I am He,’ they stepped back and fell to the ground.” This is a great story to dig into, but for now, the point is that the words of Jesus have divine power, just as the Father’s do.

Now, this is great and all, but who is to say that it means anything when we speak God’s word? Isn’t it powerful because it is coming from Him? Though that is true, allow us to direct your attention to the Great Commission, Matthew 28:18-20, particularly the often-overlooked beginning and end of it, which read, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth, Go, therefore...and remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” All authority is His, but by being with present with us and providing us the Holy Spirit as our wonderful counselor, we may share that authority. When we speak His words, first spoken by Him and chronicled by Him in the Bible, we are speaking powerfully thanks to His Spirit dwelling within us and the Son being present with us.

What Does Any of This Have to Do with Christian Bookmarks?

Now, knowing that we can speak God’s words with the blessing of Christ’s ever-present authority, what remains is to keep ourselves always familiar with His Word. Reading the Bible, perhaps using our bookmarks as Bible bookmarks, is probably the best way to find God’s Words which we can speak allowed in our own lives. That said, there’s plenty of other ways to keep yourself familiar with the word, especially if there’s a passage of it that you particularly want to remember. Consider a Bible verse bookmark for this task! Whether used as a Bible bookmark or simply a nice Christian bookmark to put in any of your books, every time you see one of these bookmarks, you will be exposed to the words of God from scripture. The more you confess them over yourself, the more you will remember them and the more positive difference you will see. It is important to us at Logos Trading Post to encourage believers to engage with scripture more often, and our Christian bookmarks are one way that we accomplish that. We hope that our products can support your faith journey!
