Made to Encourage One Another

Paul writes to the Thessalonian church in 1 Thessalonians 5:11-15, which says, “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up as you are already doing. Now we ask you, brothers, to give recognition to those who labor among you and lead you in the Lord and admonish you, and to regard them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves. And we exhort you, brothers: warn those who are irresponsible, comfort the discouraged, help the weak, be patient with everyone. See to it that no one repays evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good for one another and for all.” It is key that believers remain a part of one another’s lives, supporting one another, providing counsel, reminding of the truth in scripture, and doing all that they can to support the good of those around them. It is our joy, then, to offer believers these pass along scripture cards such that they can always be reassured by the truth of God’s word and that they can have a way to bring blessing to others.

Encouraging One Another Through Scripture

Indeed, when it comes to blessing and encouraging one another, nothing quite does the trick like God’s Word! Our own encouragements have meaning, of course, but God’s Word is transcendent in its effect; we’re talking about the God who used His words to bring all of creation in to being, after all! Let us also remember what Paul wrote to Timothy in 1 Timothy 3:16-17, which says, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.” The scriptures are one of God’s great gifts to us, so it stands to reason that they are a great gift to give others in their times of need.

All scripture is able to make a difference in any believer’s heart, but there is something special about letting the Holy Spirit guide us in our interactions with others, speaking portions of God’s word over their life that directly pertain to the circumstances they find themselves in. That is the key to what we hope to accomplish through offering these pass along scripture cards; that they would not only encourage us to bless one another with the words of scripture, but that they would also encourage us to give just the right pass along scripture card to just the right person at just the right time, that the words of God written on it may come to be close to their heart.

How to Speak With One Another

Paul writes to the Ephesians in Ephesians 4:25, “Since you put away lying, speak the truth, each one to his neighbor, because we are members of one another.” It is not only good that we speak the truth to one another, but we are instructed to. After all, God also wrote through Paul in Colossians 4:6, saying, “Let your speech always be gracious,seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.” All in all, it is important that we speak graciously and that we speak truth. The easiest way, of course, to follow these instructions, is to be faithful in speaking God’s words, as He is the source of all truth and He is truth in Himself. Let us be faithful to follow the instructions set before us, encouraging one another though the truth of scripture, whether through studying the Bible in a group setting, sharing pass along scripture cards, or simply through you own words.

Being Blessed Through Blessing

Being faithful in doing that - sharing the words of scripture and blessing one another - is its own reward, but there is even more in it. Not only is it a command to bless others, but it is a blessing to our own souls when we do so. Indeed, consider this Jewish proverb that says, “It’s better to give on shekel a thousand different times than a thousand shekels at once, because each time you give, you become a kinder person.” God is with us, always understanding and working on our hearts through His Holy Spirit, crafting us into people who can shine His light and be more like Christ. When we are faithful in blessing others, we become the kind of people who bless. When we give, we become more like givers than we were before. All of this is pleasing to God, and it can be a joy for us, knowing that we are becoming more like Him. This idea of giving small blessings repeatedly and making a habit of it is certainly our heart in offering these pass along scripture cards; they are small, but the blessing in each card remains meaningful.

All in all, then, it can be said that all believers have the shared calling of encouraging one another and speaking the truth, and there is no more sure way to do this than by sharing the scriptures. This shared calling can be accomplished in many ways, but we offer one that we hope is truly helpful to you and is truly a blessing to those around you.
