LOGOS TRADING POST - TRUST PASS ALONG CARDS

Trusting God’s Guidance

Solomon writes in Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” Placing trust in Him is key for navigating the twists and turns of life, because He knows the path that leads to the fulfilling plans He has for you. It is our pleasure then, that our pass along scripture cards might be a part of reminding believers in whom their trust is best placed. Indeed, if our trust in in Him, He is more than faithful to lead us on what is not only the righteous path, but the path of the greatest meaning and fulfillment.

After all, the Psalmist writes in Psalm 37:23-24, “The steps of a man are established by the Lord, when he delights in his way; though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the Lord upholds his hand.” Our path is most meaningful and most delightful when it aligns with the place the Lord wants to lead us to, so let us not neglect to seek His guidance, trusting him wherever we go.

Solomon echoes the words of Psalm 37, writing in Proverbs 16:9, “The heart of a man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” Even if we have a concept of where we are going near and dear to our hearts, God will show us the best steps to take to get to what is most fulfilling. Who better to guide us on our best path than the One who made us and therefore the one who knows what is most important to us and will give us fullness of meaning?

How Does God Guide Us?

Of course, when it comes to applying this practically, there are generally two ways in which God’s guidance manifests: His words and His presence through His spirit.

Let’s start by considering the first: His words. The Psalmist muses in Psalm 119:105-112, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. I have sworn an oath and confirmed it, to keep your righteous rules. I am severely afflicted; give me life, O Lord, according to your word! Accept my freewill offerings of praise, O Lord, and teach me your rules. I hold my life in my hand continually, but I do not forget your law. The wicked have laid a snare for me, but I do not stray from your precepts. Your testimonies are my heritage forever, for they are the joy of my heart. I incline my heart to perform your statutes forever, to the end.” There’s a lot to this, so let’s dig into it for a bit.

In general, this passage of Psalm 119 is assuring those who read it that the obedience they demonstrate in sticking to God’s path is not in vain, even if hardships come their way. Though these hard times may come, our best bet of enduring them and navigating beyond them is by being diligent to meditate upon God’s Word and His Law. Sometimes our next step in our life journey is not clear, but we can always be assured of this: following God’s Law and His Word, letting it serve as a light on our path, is always the right thing to do. No matter our afflictions, His word can bring light and life to any situation! Trust the guidance He has already spoken into being through His Word, and it will be more than well for you.

The second manifestation of God’s guidance in His Spirit, sent to be ever present with us after the ascension of Jesus to the right hand of the Father. Before Jesus did so, He assured all who follow Him in John 16:12-15, “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.” Of course, God, our maker, knows what is best for us, so it is a blessing most wonderful that He has given us a form of His very self, His Spirit, to be with us and act as a guide for us through all that we face.

It is not only best for us that we trust the Spirit God has given us, but it is fulfilling and life giving to do so as well. Paul writes in Romans 8:13-16, “For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, ‘Abba! Father!’ The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.”

Trusting God & Reminding Ourselves to Do So

All in all, God is trustworthy, so it is well that we trust Him. At times, though, it can be hard. The Psalmist acknowledged in Psalm 119 that this life was full of difficulty, but that it would be well with him because he knew he could put his trust in God, a God who keeps His promises and always comes through at the right time. As we look upon these pass along scripture cards about trust, let us remember that we can always trust God, and when we share these Bible verse cards as a gift to others, we can assure others that they can trust him too!
