LOGOS TRADING POST - CHILDREN’S PASS ALONG CARDS

The Believer’s Responsibility to Make and Guide Disciples

Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” It is an important responsibility for believers, especially those who are parents, to teach children and help them develop their own faith in God. We are happy to offer these Bible verse cards for kids as a tool to enrich their developing belief. Filling their life with God’s Word and its principles not only exposes them to what you believe as their parent, but it gives them an opportunity to appreciate that faith for themselves and in a way especially suited to them. Indeed, giving a child something they can connect with, like these scripture cards with bright, upbeat designs, gives them the chance to realize faith is for everyone, young and old, and gives them the chance to receive faith as something close to their heart.

Many are familiar with the words of Jesus, spoken in the Great Commission. They’re written down in Matthew 28:18-20, which says, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” When we consider our responsibility as Christians under the Great Commission, we are often inclined to apply it to a missions and church outreach context, but those are not the only instances it should be considered in. It might even be more important that we realize our call to “make disciples of all nations” starts right at home. A few get the opportunity to travel the world as a missionary, making disciples in far off countries, but a great many Christians have the opportunity to make a difference with their own children and family. We believe these scripture cards can be a helpful tool in family discipleship, but what’s more important to us is that disciples are being made using whatever approach works best for them.

The Christian Family and Discipleship

There is virtue in loving a stranger, Jesus even refers to Himself as such in Matthew 25:35-36 & 40, saying, “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me...Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.” Every person we show genuine, Christian love to is important; by loving them, we have loved God and what He has created.

Still, the virtue of loving our neighbors is no excuse for the neglect of family. Paul warns in 1 Timothy 5:7-8, “Command these things well, so that they may be without reproach. But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.” What could be more important to provide to our families, especially our children, than an opportunity to know God for themselves? We would encourage that discipleship is more than just mission work or something you do at church. Discipleship is something that can permeate every day; after all, isn’t disciples exactly what we are?

There are many ways to engage your children in discipleship, and it’s more important to us that you do that than it is whether or not you buy one of our products. Still, we wish to provide these scripture memory cards and Bible verse cards for kids as one tool that you can use to make disciples of your own children. Really, the heart behind these scripture cards is that they provide a way for children to engage with scripture. That’s one of our primary missions at Logos Trading Post - to encourage believers to engage with God’s Word every day. So whether you’re reading scripture with children, passing out these scripture cards, or doing any other form of discipleship, we hope that it is helping children all over develop in their own faith as disciples and experience the truth of scripture for themselves.

Why Minister to Children at All?

Of course, our perspective isn’t the only one. Some might see it as a waste to put so much effort into teaching children about God; they see true faith as something for the mature, that one cannot understand in any meaningful way until adulthood. Though some of us do repent and turn toward Jesus in adulthood, that’s not necessarily how it has to be. After all, Jesus says in Mark 10:14-15, Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” Not only can children receive the kingdom of God for themselves, but their heart in doing so is something the adults ought to emulate! As we teach children in a constructive way, their faith becomes their own, but it is an especially pure and beautiful faith that all the world around them can be blessed by. Ministry of all ages is important, but it will do us well to remember the children in our efforts. It is our pleasure as a business to not only provide ministry tools and blessings for adults but to also support children as they learn and discover, and we are happy to provide Bible verse cards for kids in order to do just that.
